Submarine Electronic Unit Test System

Goal

A customer operating in the defense industry and producing advanced technology defense solutions has encountered a need for a testing infrastructure to be designed and produced to test the functionality in a very short time of two different control boards and the units that these boards function on, which have been designed and produced as a prototype to be used in a submarine system. A common infrastructure has been requested for both boards that are critically important in terms of the sector they are used in.

Solution

The test set was arranged to be in the form of a CCTS (Computer Controlled Test Set) and the test sets were designed so that the board and unit to be used for the project could be tested separately. The connection between the testing devices and the product being tested was provided over ITA (Interface Test Adaptor) which was designed in a structure that could be carried by one personnel.

Our design team, which used the “Labview” program as a test software development setting, used the “Soft Processor” (Microblaze) instead of the VHDL software for the embedded test software to develop C++ software. In this scope Xilinx ISE’s EDK and SDK modules and the Vivado XPR and SDK modules were used.

The test software guided the operator to ensure that the FPGA test software was loaded on the UUTs (Unit Under Test). Our team, which formed the embedded testing software to work compatibly with the LabVIEW test software, made the test software communicate with the PBT over a fast channel with the LabVIEW software and in situations where the LabVIEW software wasn’t used provided the test operator with manual use over the HyperTerminal interface.

Result

ITA (Interface Test Adapter) was verified for the concerned units and boards with the designed embedded test software via the HyperTerminal interface without using the LabVIEW test software. The test software that was designed is able to show the operator if the test fails or passes, giving the option to repeat the test step again or to continue the test.

The test set has successfully completed the functional tests of the UUTS and all the test requirements of the concerned units and boards were covered. Thus DEICO fulfilled the test requirements of the units and board and has provide the customer with a good quality and reliable test infrastructure.
