Scope and Functionality
The I-Level Test Equipment Project is designed to support intermediate-level maintenance operations for complex avionics systems—primarily the ACMI POD (Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation) used in military aviation.
What Does It Do?

Measures mechanical/electrical performance of helicopter generators and starters.
- Tests generators by driving them mechanically and analyzing electrical outputs.
- Tests starters by driving them electrically and analyzing mechanical outputs (e.g., torque, angular speed).

Simultaneously tests two generators.
- Supports hydraulic- and air-cooled generators (AC/DC).
- 160 kW power unit drives generators up to 20,000 RPM.
- Measures starter torque (up to 100 Nm) and angular speed (up to 20,000 RPM).
- Fully automated PC-based controller for tests without manual intervention.
- Modular design for compatibility with diverse mechanical interfaces.
- Includes:
- 2 AC + 2 DC load banks for generator load simulation.
- 2000 A 28 V DC power supply for starter “no-load speed/torque” tests.
- Electromechanical infrastructure for automated starter tests.
- Capability to test/simulate Generator Control Units (GCU) and voltage regulators.
